Donald's Story

After graduation from PHS, I was lucky enough to get a job at Chemstrand (which became Monsanto and currently Solutia). What started out as just a job that would allow me to purchase a car (1957 MGA) turned into a real career. I hired into what the company called IBM, their name for machine accounting which morphed into Information Technology (IT). I became a computer programmer, systems analyst and project manager. I retired on April 1, 1996, All Fools Day, a very appropriate day. The company hired me as a consultant and I worked another five years. I completed my career by leading the Y2K conversion at the Pensacola plant. The consulting job ended on April 1, 2001, again a very appropriate day. On a more personal note: I met a lovely young lady from the Escambia Class of ¿63, we were married in June of ¿63 and have two children. My son has two children and four by marriage; their ages range from 9 to 15. Something of interest; my mother had triplets, (not me), our daughter was a triplet (she was the only one to live), and now she has twins (boy and girl, 7 years old)¿. I guess it really does run in families. My daughter has a new baby boy, born in April 2008. A little explanation about my Q&A: Indoor activities: Crafting is not really what I like, but wood carving was not on the list. I enjoy carving things like walking sticks, little turtles, dogs, monkeys, etc. I¿ll post a few pictures of my carvings. My video games consist of minesweeper and solitaire. Outdoor activities: Fishing?? Othe...Expand for more
r people go fishing, I go 'catching'. Sooner or later I¿ll post a few pictures of fish I¿ve caught off my dock. Hunting?? I hunt, and hunt, and hunt, don't 'find' very much, must not be very good at it. I hunt (and hunt) primarily with bow (compound) and arrows, occasionally I like to use my black powder rifle. The deer and wild hogs always seem to know when I¿m in the woods, they hide and I hunt and hunt. One activity I really like (not on the Q&A list) is shooting a bow; I¿m not very good, but I did qualify for the International Bowhunting Organization (IBO) World Championship last year (2007). I did shoot; and, I did not come in last in my class¿ almost but NOT last. Maybe I¿ll post some pictures of that also. What type of person was I in high school: I put down ¿jock¿ and ¿nerd¿; I thought I was a little shy, and felt as if I were always on the outside looking in; I thought I was a little nerdy. But, I was also on that great 1958-59 football team that went undefeated; so I guess I was a JOCK. At the time we thought we were the best football team in history, maybe we were! How my friends would describe me: I let my wife answer this one, those are the things she said. See the Q&A section What I do at the polls: If you can make sense out of all those things I checked; tell me. If you remember me or if you don¿t, drop me a line and we¿ll renew old friendships, or start new ones. If you pull a bow, let me know, maybe we can get together and let a few (arrows) fly! See you at our 50th.
